KY Duration Spray Side Effects
K-Y Duration side effects can be divided into medical side effects and sexual side effects. Medical side effects with using KY Duration are rare but sexual side effects are quite likely, even if used properly.
First, I am not a doctor, a medical professional, or a representative of the company. (I get a small commission if you buy on Amazon via my link.). This is not medical advice. You consult a doctor if you have any concerns about the side effects of KY Duration or any other desensitizing spray. You should also read the safety information on the KY Duration packaging. I have simply done some research and reporting on what I have found. I can’t guarantee the accuracy of my sources.
KY Duration is a medication that contains the active ingredient – lidocaine, a drug. This spray delays a man’s orgasm, allowing sexual activity to continue longer. So there is a potential for side effects. If you want to do some of your own research, you should know that lidocaine is also called lignocaine, xylocaine (you’ll hear this one a the dentist office), and lidoderm (for skin pain). Many delay sprays use benzocaine which has a lower side effect profile.
K-Y Duration Spray for Premature Ejaculation Side Effects
- Some people have an allergic reaction to lidocaine.
- The adult toxicity for lidocaine is > 300mg so that’s 30 sprays of KY Duration (10mg per spray)
- Loss of sensation
- Loss of erection
Medical side effects using KY Duration (or any delay spray) are rare but you should understand the potential.
- Some people have an allergic reaction to lidocaine. Assuming you’ve had a shot of xylocaine (as dentists often refer to it) and have had no reaction, you’re probably OK. If you are allergic to lidocaine, you may want to try a delay spray that uses benzocaine. In my opinion, the best desensitizing products use lidocaine. See my post about benzocaine vs. lidocaine spray for premature ejaculation. An allergic reaction to topical lidocaine may result in a rash, itchiness, etc.
- Although impossible if you use KY Duration as directed, you can actually reach a toxic level of lidocaine by applying too much. The adult toxicity for lidocaine is > 300mg so that’s 30 sprays of KY Duration (10mg per spray). And that assumes that the lidocaine absorbs instantly into your body (like an injection) which certainly won’t happen when applied topically. So, unless you have an exceptionally large penis (actually the maximum number of sprays is 10 regardless of how well endowed you are), the only way this might occur is if you use KY Duration for something other than PE. Don’t apply on your child’s chickenpox!!
- Don’t use K-Y Duration Spray without consulting your doctor if your partner is pregnant or breastfeeding.
KY Duration Lidocaine Spray Sexual Side Effects
Sexual side effects with KY Duration are much more likely than Medical Side Effects.
- Loss of sensation. Certainly the number one side effect most guys are worried about. Try applying to the smallest area of your penis – the frenulum – and see if that gives you enough control.
- Transference to your partner. This is likely to happen unless you wash your penis prior to having sex. Not a bad idea, anyway. Vaginas are susceptible to bacteria and your crotch is a haven for bacteria so why not wash. I know it can kill the mood so maybe have her do it for you.
- Loss of erection. Applying too much can do this. Especially if you’ve had a lot of alcohol. See my post on Whiskey Dick – The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. The biggest mistake guys make when using a delay spray is using too much. Some guys think: “The directions say ‘Start with 3 sprays’ so I’ll use 5” Wrong. Remember, the FDA makes these delay sprays say ‘start with 3 sprays’. Lots of guy do better with 1 or 2 sprays.
Premature ejaculation is quite common condition, premature ejaculation may be the reason why you are not getting the pleasure you want in bed. Having a premature ejaculation is generally defined as to have an orgasm within 5 minutes of penetration.
An incomplete ejaculation may occur during sexual intercourse as you release the ejaculate before you have penetrated the vagina. You are able to achieve an orgasm even if your ejaculate is only a fraction of the size of a normal male ejaculate. Another condition that can give the same kind of premature ejaculation is called erectile dysfunction. This is when your penis is not up to the task of stimulating the female vagina to the point of orgasm.

It is very common for people to experience K-Y’s side effects, either orally or topically. The most frequently reported side effect of K-Y is oral discomfort such as burning and chapping.
K-Y can cause a red, raw and itchy rash (maculopapular rash). While this is due to K-Y and not the person, this is usually self-limiting.
The other side effects of K-Y is mainly related to its sexual side effects.
If an individual is not using K-Y correctly, they may develop ovulatory pain in the process of ovulation and as a result, may take precautions during sexual intercourse to reduce the chance of pain.
As the K-Y cream goes into the vagina, there is a risk of a small tear or an irritation.
