Dapoxetine Treatment for Premature Ejaculation – Discontinuation by Patients
A 2-year observational study out of Korea shows that patients are discontinuing use of dapoxetine, brand name Priligy, at an alarming rate. Approximately 80% of patients stopped using dapoxetine after just 6 months and almost 80% after 2 years. Various reasons were cited but cost was the biggest one at about 30%. The 2nd biggest reason was that it was required every time before sex. This doesn’t make sense to me as there is no cure for PE so any PE treatment will be required each time. I’m thinking that it wasn’t so much that it was required every time, more that it takes 1-3 hours to become effective so it’s not easy to manage the situation. No spontaneity. Or the opposite – you’re expecting sex at a certain time and it’s much later … or it never happens so you just spent $5-10 for nothing and had to endure some side effects.
I did find it interesting that side effects were only named in about 12% of patients. I thought the side effects of dapoxetine were much higher.
I wrote another post about the effectiveness of dapoxetine, with a very small % of men really happy with its performance: Priligy’s Study – Poor Performance
Here’s the study if you want to read the Korean study (it’s quite technical):
