Refractory Period and Premature Ejaculation
The refractory period is defined as the time after male orgasm when it is not possible for a man to have additional orgasms. For us guys with PE, this sounds more like an opportunity than a problem!!
And that’s just what many guys with PE do … utilize the refractory period to have longer lasting sex after quickly ejaculating. The problem is, not only is it impossible to have another orgasm, it’s impossible to achieve an erection. At least for a while. 5, 10, 15, 30, 60 minutes, 2-4 hours, even 24 hours for some (mostly older) guys.
For most guys, even 5 minutes seems like an eternity. Believe me, I know. In the past, waiting through the refractory period to have sex again as a way to solve my problem with premature ejaculation and satisfy Andrea (and me) was my best PE “treatment”. But after starting intercourse, stopping and going back to foreplay is very problematic. I’ve had Andrea moaning (sorry, Andrea in case you’re reading this) for more thrusting (and getting annoyed in the heat of the moment). But there’s just nothing you can do until you get your erection back. So I tried the best I could to keep Andrea sexually aroused during the wait period.
PDE-5 Inhibitors Decrease the Refractory Period
That’s why a lot of guys use PDE-5 inhibitors (Viagra, Cialis, Levitra) for premature ejaculation. These drugs shorten the refractory period. And they work. But the older I got, the longer my natural refractory period and the higher dose of Viagra needed. I could see the trend. And it wasn’t a very good solution to begin with … it was just my only solution at the time.
Other problems with using Viagra (sildenafil) for PE. The performance was inconsistent. And they’re expensive. Side effects are tolerable but do make you feel a little weird. That’s about the time I started seeking other solutions and started my blog and explored the various methods and products for premature ejaculation.
